Rideshare Accidents

The App Made a Promise. We Make Sure They Keep It.

Uber and Lyft have changed how people get around.  However, when a rideshare trip ends in a crash, injured passengers, drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians are often left facing a confusing and frustrating claims process.  Wood Legal fights to hold negligent drivers and rideshare companies accountable when their carelessness causes serious injury.

What Pennsylvania Law Requires

Rideshare drivers, like all motorists, owe a duty to operate their vehicles with reasonable care. When a rideshare driver breaches that duty through distracted driving, speeding, or other negligent conduct and causes a crash, they can be held legally responsible for the injuries and losses that result.

How Rideshare Insurance Coverage Works

Uber and Lyft are required to provide insurance coverage for their drivers, but the coverage available depends on what the driver was doing at the moment of the crash. If the driver’s app was off, their personal auto insurance is typically the only coverage that applies. If the app was on but the driver hadn’t yet accepted a ride, limited coverage from Uber or Lyft may apply. And if the driver was in the process of picking up or actively transporting a passenger, higher liability coverage from Uber or Lyft, typically up to $1 million, generally applies.

Because coverage can shift dramatically based on the driver’s status at the exact moment of the accident, identifying which policy applies is a critical part of any rideshare accident claim.
